What to Expect
Visiting a new church can be intimidating: What should I wear? Where do my kids go? Do I need to know about God first?
We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a church,
so we want you to feel like an honored guest when you attend one of our worship gatherings.
Below are some frequently asked questions.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us in the church office ahead of time,
and we’ll be happy to address them.

When is the worship service?
Sunday at 10:45 a.m. What should I wear? We are thrilled that you are joining us, and we want you to be more focused on the service than on what you’re wearing. There is no uniformity of dress among our people, and we’ll be happy to welcome you regardless of your clothing. How do I get to First Baptist Church? We are conveniently located at 1342 Berkshire Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. We currently share a building with Crest Manor Church of the Brethren. We worship in the chapel; and, although you can enter through any door, the main entrance we use is on the south side of the building. Look for the brown awning that says "First Baptist Church" and "First Connections Preschool." Where do my children go? The nursery (infant to 4-years old) is located just down the hall from the chapel. Children begin in the Worship Service with their parents, then go to Children’s Church following our Offering. One of our greeters would be happy to help you! |
Am I expected to put money in the offering?
We practice Biblical stewardship principles at First Baptist, which includes giving regularly to our church as God has blessed. However, if you are visiting with us, we don’t expect you to put money in the offering, and you are welcome to just let it pass you by. Can I take communion? Yes! And we celebrate communion the first Sunday of each month and at special services. What version of the Bible do you use? We lean toward the New Revised Standard Version, but feel free to use whatever version you're comfortable with. If you are new to the faith or don't have your own Bible, please don't let that deter you. I have hearing problems. Is there special assistance? Yes! For those who are hearing impaired, we have special hearing devices that you can wear that will allow you to control the volume. If you think this would be beneficial to you, please let an usher know, and we will get one for you. |
Rev. Diana Thompson, PastorPastor Diana is a homegrown Hoosier and a life-long American Baptist. She has been married to her husband, John, for almost thirty years; and they have two grown sons. Pastor Diana believes that, as disciples of Jesus, all we do should be filtered through Jesus’ command to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as ourselves. She acknowledges that walking with Jesus is not always easy, but it does bring a deep joy and an abiding peace, even in the most difficult of times.
