Today's lesson was about Jesus meeting Andrew, Simon Peter, Philip, and Nathanael (also sometimes called Bartholomew, we think). Philip invites Nathanael to "Come and see!" the great things that Jesus is doing and hear his teachings.
The Small Talk (during service), focused on our call to go out and tell the Good News that is Jesus. Actually, first it focused on some delicious cookies that I just HAD to share with everyone. I'm sharing the recipe here.
Finally, during Spiritual Formation time, we focused on what it means to be a disciple and the names of the 12 disciples. I have had this song stuck in my head all day. It's called the "12 Disciples Song" and it's by Bigsby. I'm sharing it here. It is addictive and repetitive...exactly what you need to remember the names of the disciples. We listened to it on loop while we were coloring our 12 disciples mini-books. I've attached a pdf of the book project here.
My favorite part of the day came after church on the way home. One of my children asked, "Aren't we disciples, too?" I replied, "Yes, we are, too. God calls us just like he called the 12." "Then the song is wrong. There are millions of disciples!" Amen, little one. Amen.
God, help me to be a better disciple, to teach, to reach, and most importantly to follow You. Amen.
